FRYING PLANTAINS Zalika Reid-Benta
My Thoughts
It centers around Kara Davis, a girl who struggles between her Canadian nationality and her Jamaican heritage. The novel is a coming of age story about Kara finding her voice. While I liked all the life lessons Kara learns a long the way. I struggle with the different unresolved issues with different relationships, e.g why did she struggle to talk to her mother, why did the father leave? Kara never really confronted or resolved the issue with her father. I never truly understood why the mother and grandmother had this continued rage towards each other, which was also never resolved. I had so many questions at the end of the book that I had to google to see if there will be a sequel. It started well but didn’t end so well.
⭐️⭐️💫 (2.5/5)
