THE WARMTH OF OTHER SUN Isabel Wilkerson
My Thoughts
This epic writing chronicles one of the greatest migrations (1915-1970) in American history. When Africa Americans fled the south for northern and western cities in search for a better life. This was a historical perspective and intimate details of three individuals: Ida Mae Gladney, George Starling and Robert Pershing Foster. Unlike most migrations, the blacks who left the South were seeking full citizenship within their own country.
Leaving
Fleeing the racial terror that reigned in the Jim Crow South the daily humiliations, constant fear of violence, and the yearning to live a full and free life drove them to make a perilous journey, risking their lives in the process. Wikison did a phenomenal job with writing and research!!! To hear these untold stories was so mind blowing!!!
The South
I felt so many emotions, weeping at times without realising it. At times I had to put this book down and turn to it later just because I found the information so overwhelming.
Transplanted In Alien Soil
This book was an incredible lesson in bravery and tenacity. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can not recommend it enough!!!
